The Mighty Power of Money

The world has shaped itself in a way that everything revolves about money. So when you hear a person whine about money being the means to everything in life, trust me, that person is not in any way mistaken. That is the world we are living in now. It has gone to a point that the wealthy keep on expanding their territory in their favor while the poor remain trapped in their miseries. It is hard to close in on the gap and if there are those people that mange to jump over to the category of the wealthy few; they are some of the luckiest people alive.

Why is it so hard to join the rich-man’s club? There are generally two types of learning institutions in any given country: those that perform poorly and those that do well. Those that perform well have better facilities, better and well trained workforce and generally enough resources for all students in that learning institution. To maintain this high degree of effectiveness that provides a better environment for all students to acquire knowledge, these institutions provide these services at a higher price. This situation locks out the poor who are forced to use the more congested, poorly funded and managed institutions with very thin chances of providing quality education.

If any poor student makes it out of those low standard learning institutions and manages to get tuition funding from the government or sponsorship from people of goodwill, they are yet faced with another problem in the learning institutions that they go to. In a good college, most of the students who have earned a spot there are those who have had the chance to acquire good grades in their lower learning levels. This goes without saying that the majority of these students are from the well-off families. Their culture and lifestyle is different from the few poor students under the sponsorship of the government or nongovernmental source. This puts a lot of psychological strain to these students while trying to fit in with the rich man’s culture hence still prone to poor performance while there.

The problems do not end there. When students are through with their college studies, students from poor backgrounds have slimmer chances of getting a job; or a good job for that matter in a society faced with corruption and nepotism. The established rich few will tend to pick on their kind when seeking services from the fresh graduates.

Dizzy is the Word

I don’t think there is a clinical term for the word dizzy but if there is, that is exactly what I would be diagnosed with right now; chronic dizziness, inflicted by people whose character is not up to standards with what I would consider normal for a college student. I am talking about those people who make me want to get up the very minute they open their mouth to talk. I am not complaining, but I believe I have some of the most annoying college mates in the whole world.

I believe one can control the content of the things he or she says, but if you happen to find yourself belittling everybody’s effort to do a thing every time you want to build a topic with me around, you are most definitely bound to make me feel dizzy. Just to set the record straight, if the only way you can establish a conversation with me is by shunning the deeds of other people close to you, then I will definitely blacklist you as one of those people with little content. Talking about the evils of others, especially if they happen to be your close friends is an insensitive act that I would never condone.

Being so ‘full of yourself’ is sometimes considered appropriate. Some people are attracted to those people who portray a bit pride in them. But while you are at it, make sure to channel it to the right people, not me. It makes me sick deep within to have to pay attention to whatever it is that you, your family and all the money in your possession are capable of. If you have to tell me about the trip to Bahamas you and your family went to overt the holiday, make it quick and don’t make it sound like you are seeking some kind of social status recognition from me; like haters, it tends to make feel dizzy.

The last but not the least on this list of things that make me feel dizzy is the bunch of liars you find around the college. If you have to look me in the eye and give me some misleading information for your own good, be sure to make it look true forever for the moment I will figure out that you lied to me, I will drop down with dizziness just by having to see your face.

Adjusting to college life as a freshman

University life presents a great time for transition for many teens and many find these changes to be too tough for them to handle. Many come into the colleges fresh from their parents’ roof and care and thus find the going stressful and unbearable. It is however very important to know that this life is not supposed to be stressful at all. The freedom this life presents comes as a major challenge to many especially those who do not know how to handle such. It is good to understand that you are dealing with your life and not that of your parents. Live responsibly throughout the three or four years you will be in the college. It is always very difficult for many people to handle freedom. Many are used to always looking over their parents shoulders and for those; this duration becomes a major challenge to handle.

The fact that many find themselves in the college without their old friends and parents in sight is enough to cause a major dent in their lives. There are however some helpful tips which you might adopt in order to be able to adjust easily and enjoy the fun part of this life. Normally, you will find that many universities and colleges do have an orientation program for the fresh students. This is one of the best ways to help the students in adjusting to this new life. One of the best things about this orientation program is that you find yourself in the midst of many freshman students and this becomes the best forum for you to start a new foundation in college friendships.

Many colleges have a way of putting two students together and this becomes one of the best ways for the students to make new friends. This might however be a challenging thing especially if you have to start sharing a room with this stranger. This will however change as time goes by. Another better way of adjusting and making new friends is to be involved in the field activities or sports. It is of great importance that the student attends all their classes without missing due to unnecessary reasons. Handle the liberty you have responsibly. Try to make new friends in the classroom and you will find it fun though still challenging.

You should keep it in your mind that the very first reason for your being in college is to learn. Don’t be distracted from your studies by things such as parties and other unnecessary activities. Avoid overindulging in those parties if you have to attend now and then.

Time planning in college

For every student in a college, time is of essence although this is a fact that it true for every person under the sun. However, a student has a lot that needs to be done within a given spun of time and this does not allow for time wastage and other avoidable distractions. There is however some few things which might come up when you are not predicting them most of which you do not have control over. It is however very important to ensure that as a student you have your time well planned if you are going to fulfill your goals. Talking of goals, it is important for every student to have some set goals which the aim to achieve otherwise life in college may become just another motion that bores to death.

Planning your time will help you to be sure that you have everything under your control. Make sure that your set goals are simple and achievable. As a student, you will need to understand that your primary responsibility in the college is to study. Ask yourself therefore, how much of the time in your hands should be given for the purpose of study? Those who are in college full time may be required to put in a different number of hours into their work differently from those taking part time studies. Thing of the number of hours you should dedicate to other things such as lectures, independent studies, laboratory work and tutorials among many other activities.

You should allocate yourself time for different academic activities generously but make sure that you have tried to spend the time wisely. This planning should however be used as guide and not as a rule that does not allow you to do other things in case the need arises. You should have a clear balance between the academic work and other extra curriculum activities.

With the whole semester ahead of you, it will also be good to make a proper plan for the same. This plan should always be on your study desk somewhere where you will be seeing it all the time. Remember that although you have the official timetable from the dean of studies, you will be required to put in extra times beyond the class in order to accomplish your tasks at hand. A focused plan will help you work out a proper timetable which will be useful as a guide for you.

Academic Writing Discipline: Start Early

Writing papers is absolutely one of the hardest and one of the most important things you have to accomplish in college. Writing per se is hard because it requires work, understanding and critical thinking. It requires in-depth research, clear language and the most crucial factor - discipline.

Academic papers often weigh heavily in grades and sometimes are required to get into universities. Writing ability is critical to your success in school and to your future career. As discipline play a major role in writing academic pieces, it only boils down to one point - start early and budget your time.

You've probably heard this a million times, but it can be quite easy to let time slip out when you must juggle all your assignments, work and party time. As there is reading and research involved in paper writing, then the sooner you can start the process, the better.

Starting early will help you deal with unanticipated problems like difficulty in getting the required research materials or being sick with the flu just before the paper is due. Discipline through starting early helps not only in letting the ideas steep into your brain but more importantly to brilliantly accomplish the paper.

Research Paper Proposal Ins and Outs

Every undergraduate student needs to write a research paper proposal. Although its name suggests what it is all about many students still fail to execute the purpose of such paper – a concrete and logical study proposal.

Simply put, research paper proposals must be able to present the ideas, issues, or researches that students want to pursue in their writing. Furthermore, a sound proposal can show professors that the writer has actually taken the time and effort to think about the research paper writing process.

For starters, here are the ins and outs of a good research paper proposal:

· statement of the question that the study intend to answer
· brief literature review, wherein relevant materials to the research paper topic is reviewed
· a statement explaining what the main point of the argument
· an outline of the paper itself – introduction, body, conclusion, bibliography, etc.
· a bibliography for the proposal.

By and large, research paper proposals don’t have to be at all. Generally, they are no longer than four pages. However, content quality needs to be high as well as concise.
